Mercy Corps is an international humanitarian and development organization that helps people around the world survive and thrive after conflict, crisis and natural disaster. For over thirty years we have responded to disaster and conflict situations in over forty countries, assisting the most vulnerable among affected populations. This position is with the registered Mercy Corps Representative office in Turkey. Mercy Corps Turkey is currently seeking to fill the post of:

Certified Translator (Based in Gaziantep)

Essential Job Functions:

  1. Responsible for the interpretation/translation of key languages such as r Turkish into English and vice versa. This includes verbal and written translations of various documents. Arabic is preferable.
  2. Providing live translation for trainings, video chats and in-person meetings.
  3. Travel as interpreter with international staff as and when required.
  4. Facilitate organization of community and/or partners meetings
  5. Conduct himself/herself both professionally and personally in such a manner as to bring credit to Mercy Corps and to not jeopardize its humanitarian mission.
  6. Assist other team members in daily programmatic activities.

  1. Support and adhere to policies that maintain the safety and security of him/herself and the team.

Other

  1. Other duties as assigned may included but not limited to: monitoring activities, data entry, data/information collection

Qualification:

  • BA/BS or equivalent.
  • At least 1 year of previous related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and work independently and cooperatively with team members in a cross cultural environment is required.
  • High job ethic.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated flexibility and creativity in planning and problem solving.
  • Proven ability to learn quickly, lead a team to achieve stated results and objectives.
  • Effective verbal and written communication, multi-tasking, organizational and prioritization skills.
  • Excellent oral and written English, plus at least one of Turkish, Kurdish and Arabic. (Other relevant languages will be considered). Fluency in at least 3 languages will be an advantage.
  • Excellent computer skills: at minimum: MS Office and internet.
  • Ability to work effectively with an ethnically diverse team in a sensitive environment.
  • Previous experience in insecure environments.
